Page types
On Builders Platform, you may choose between two different page types – Page: Article and Page: General.
To know what page type you should choose, you need to ask yourself only one question: am I creating this page to solve a reading task for users who want to deep-dive into a certain topic?
- Yes? You should go for the Article Page.
- No? The General Page will be a good fit for any other user task.
- If you're not sure how to build your content, try creating one of each and test different approaches.
- You can always change the page type if you change your mind.
Page: Article
Choose this page when creating content that helps the user learn more about one specific topic. It is designed for long reading and should be used for articles, blog entries, product details and other reading tasks.
This page type has three parts that help you solve such tasks:
- Header: Blog, which displays the date of publishing or latest update
- Article: Text Section, which allows long texts with formatting and different side content such as tips, info boxes, images or quotes
- Article: Images, which fetches 1-2 photos, illustrations or screenshots from the asset server
These allow you to write long-form text content in combination with other parts that trigger action or elaborate on your text.
Anchors
The Article Page has an optional anchor menu that allows users to jump between the various text sections within the article. This means it can be used both for texts that are meant to be read from start to finish (e.g. a blog post) and texts that gather information that vary in relevance for different users (e.g. product details or guides).
Page: General
If you're not creating content for reading, you'll be using the General page. Offering all parts except for the three article parts, it's got everything you need to trigger actions, create an overview or help users navigate further. This is a flexible starting point for any front page, product page or campaign page.
Anchors
While the General Page does not offer any anchor menu, you may create anchor links to certain parts:
- Product Overview
- Product Group Table
- Notice: Short Text
- Text Sets
- FAQ
- Infographics
- Table
- Contact
- Product Action List
Changing page types
Sometimes, you might want to change the page type – say from Page: Article to Page: General. This may be done by admins in the Data Toolbox app:
- From the XP start page, open Data Toolbox and then Data Tree
- Select the "com.enonic.cms.default" repository and then the "Draft" branch
- Select the "[root]" node, the "content" node and then the node with the same name as your site
- Find the page you wish to change, click its "info" icon, and select "Display properties". If you wish to change a subpage, click the pages that precede it in the URL, for instance /bedrift and then /forsikring to display the subpages.
- Click the pencil icon next to "type", and edit the string "theme:page-article" to "theme:page-general" or vice versa
If you can't access the Data Toolbox app, you need help from an admin
