Accessibility
Welcome to the learning hub for exploring and improving accessibility here at Gjensidige.
Accessibility or Universal design?
Accessibility refers to designing products, devices, services, or environments to be usable by people with disabilities. It often involves making specific accommodations or modifications to ensure that individuals with various impairments can access and use something effectively.
Universal Design, on the other hand, is a broader concept. It aims to create products and environments that are inherently accessible to all people, regardless of age, disability, or other factors, without the need for adaptation or specialized design. The goal is to make things usable by the widest range of people possible from the outset by adopting a new mindset before a product is even built.
In summary:
- Accessibility: Focuses on making things usable for people with disabilities through specific accommodations.
- Universal Design: Aims to make things usable for everyone from the start, without needing special adaptations.

Introduction to universal design
Universal design is about creating sites and services that are easy to use and navigate – for everyone.
Accessibility Champion
We have promoted champions for accessibility in almost every digital team in Gjensidige Forsikringer, and Gjensidige Pensjon. This is an added role to that person, and they are otherwise front-end developers or UX-designers.

Developers have a particular responsibility for universal design. Here's what to consider, what to look for, and how to improve your apps accessibility through code.
For content design
All our text content must follow the rules of universal design. We achieve this through correct formatting, alternative image texts and plain language.
