31st of May

This is a summary of Front-end Forum held on Wednesday the 31st of May, 2023.

Forum summary

This time the forum gathered about 4 persons physically in Samhandlingssonen, and 7 on Teams. This is a record-low attendance, but there's many deadlines out there to be met now before summer. For the brave: Thanks for showing up, do spread the knowledge and the word about Front-end Forum.

Topics that we covered during this session were:

Core Components

  • One breaking-branch (so no big releases for a little longer)
  • Some components getting attention
    • Specifically some form components are poorly written and creates a lot of headache for users and maintainers.
  • Font still an issue (being actively worked on)

Form Patterns

  • 3 collab sessions
  • Slack: #forms-patterns
  • These sessions have now concluded, and discipline leaders are taking over to diggest the material and handover at some point to Builders.

UU

  • Two half-days
  • Open discussion
  • See the videos
  • Recording: #digitalisering-og-design
  • Slack: #accessibility

Digital Tribe Summit DK

  • I did a Best Practice-talk on front-end, talked about our practices for good frontend, and informed how to contribute to Core.
  • Did a quick 2 hour workshop where they built an CRA that displayed data from the TrustPilot API.

Builders Platform updates

  • Header: CTA - buttons programmable now that button-wrapper has an ID.
  • App Loader now has data-object directly on the mounted element, no need for round-tripping.
  • Added stuff in URL? Stored in SessionStorage from now on.
  • #builders-platform has more details - always.

Sharing is caring

  • Prefered places to share common code / snippets / etc?
  • Extensions / addons?
  • Conclusions in the room/teams was that "open for the public eye" could be a Github-repo everyone could send PRs to.
  • More private things should be kept to Confluence.
  • Addons/small things: use #frontend on Slack?

Future of Front-end Forum

  • Any wishes? What works? What doesn’t? What’s missing?
  • No feedback from the room, but earlier feedback was "let teams share what they work on", room agreed that sounded interesting.
  • I might send out a form of some sorts, specifically interested if another day/time/frequency could trigger more people to attend.

Closing words

Thank you for participating! Spread the news about Front-end Forum to others who might benefit from it. Agenda posted weekly before each forum, in #frontend on Slack.
