Get to know the content model
To understand the content model, there are a few words and terms you need to understand. Learn more about page types, parts and fragments, content types, and metadata.
Page types
This is the easy part, as we only have two kinds of pages:
- Page: Article
- Page: General
Article is best for text-heavy deep-dives into a certain topic. For any other task, we use General. If you're unsure, experiment with one of each.
Parts
Once you've chosen page type, you basically start building your web page - with parts, and/or fragments.
Parts are the building blocks all editors have available to build pages. Examples are headers, link lists, buttons, cards etc.
Fragments are basically parts that can be reused on different pages. Whereas a part only appears on the page where you made it. If you make changes to a fragment, those changes appear everywhere.
Content types
Structured content: With this content model lwe can create small pieces of content once, use it on several pages, use it in different contexts and maintain it all in one place.
When we build web pages, we first create small pieces of content like links, persons, products, videos etc., and put them neatly into folders based on content type. That means we can reuse them in different contexts and pages.
We then put the pieces of content into parts which presents them in the correct design.
Parts and content types - whats what?
Let us show you an example: You want to make a link lists. You use the part called Link list, and fill it with links that already exist or make new ones using the content type Link.
Same goes for a list of people to contact: you start by using the Contact part, and then you put one or more of the Person content type into it. The ones that already exist in the system, can be put right in.
The different content types
- Products, product groups and features
- Navigation
- System messages
- FAQ question and group
- Videos (via Qbrick or YouTube)
- Links (external URLs and anchors)
- Applications (relative URLs to apps)
- Charts (used to create diagrams for the Infographics part)
- Categories and Events (used for Feed and Archive)
- Documents (PDFs and spreadsheets)
- Person (Contact persons, employees etc)
