Push notification service
Use this service to send push notifications to people using the Gjensidige app.
How to send a push notification
Working on a different app?
Right now, you can only use this service with the Gjensidige app. If you want to use it with another app, talk to the App and Web Platform squad.
To use the service, you need to send it:
- The user ID (partref) for the user
- A title for your message
- The message text
- A web link (URL) to open in the app
- An API key from the Mobile and Web Platform squad
If the user has not consented to push notifications, the service will respond with an error.
We cannot tell if the user got, read, or tapped on the notification. If you want to know if someone tapped on your message, add web tracking to your link.
Developers can check the Swagger docs in the source code to read technical details.
User Experience tips and rules
See Apple's and Google's guidelines:
No marketing
Push Notifications should not be used for promotions or direct marketing purposes unless customers have explicitly opted in (..)
Do not use push notifications for marketing or ads.
Apple's App Review Guidelines require in-app consent for marketing messages, which we do not have yet.
If you break these rules, Apple can stop us from sending push notifications or even remove our app from the App Store.
No personal information
Avoid including sensitive, personal, or confidential information in a notification.
Notifications can show up even if the app is closed, in the background, or the phone is locked. This means they are not protected like messages inside the app.
